September has a way of feeling like the start of a new year.
Summer rhythms give way to meetings, events, new projects, and renewed commitments. Before we realize it, the open spaces on our calendars begin to disappear.
There is an energy to this season that I love! New possibilities are emerging. People are reconnecting. Ideas that you paused during the summer are now ready for your attention.
But new energy does not mean that everything needs to be added back in.
Since returning from France, I have been moving more slowly than usual. My first impulse was to catch up—to respond to everything, restart everything, and quickly return to my normal pace.
Instead, the guidance I keep receiving is simple: Slow down. Listen. Allow.
That guidance has reminded me that simplifying isn’t just about having fewer things to do. For me, it is about being intentional—consciously choosing what will receive my time, energy, and attention.
We can simplify by choosing the one project that matters most instead of trying to advance several at once. We can say no to an invitation that feels more like an obligation than a joy. We can leave something unfinished or allow a decision to wait until we have greater clarity.
These choices aren’t dramatic. But each one creates a little more space.
And space matters.
It gives us room to notice what we are feeling, hear our own wisdom, and recognize what truly belongs in this season of our lives. Without that space, it is easy to keep doing what we have always done simply because it is familiar—or because someone expects it of us.
Simplifying does not mean withdrawing from life. It means making room to experience life more fully.
As you look at the weeks ahead, choose one thing that can be made easier, postponed, delegated, or released. Then give yourself permission to do it without guilt or explanation.
Sometimes one small act of simplifying is enough to help us breathe again—and to make space for what matters most.
