Today, people need more encouragement and support.
Some might say we’ve gone soft, and by some standards that would be true. Mostly I would argue, however, that in large part this need is because of the volume of information coming at us 24/7. All told, we might be considered pretty tough.
Think about it.
Most Americans have access to the documentation and history of everything that has ever happened, that we know of right now.
In 1982, futurist and inventor R. Buckminster Fuller estimated that up until 1900, human knowledge doubled approximately every century, but by 1945 it was doubling every 25 years. By most estimates today, knowledge is doubling faster than every twelve hours.
That volume creates pressure on our psyche.
It’s the low, sometimes medium-level buzz that we feel and hear most of the time, though we’re rarely conscious to its presence.
So, when people like Jelly Roll use their precious time, while accepting the New Artist of the Year award at the 2023 CMA, to give us all hope, I listen.
He said, ‘There is something poetic about a 39-year-old man winning new artist of the year.”
He continued, “I want to tell you it’s going to be okay. I want to tell you that the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror for a reason because what’s in front of you is so much more important than what’s behind you.”
I felt my shoulders relax listening to him, yet a few months ago I was oblivious to him. Today I’m sharing the impact of his words.
Because of his very troubled past, he could speak passionately to lift us. From where he had been to the CMA stage was one thing he said he could not have imagined.
As it’s my goal every day to be an ambassador of God’s love, light, joy, and wisdom, I’m sharing this story to lift you as I was.
Can’t we all use a bit more light somewhere in our lives?
