A Change of Heart

We’ve all heard the phrase “a change of heart.” It sounds simple, even sentimental — but in business, it can be the quiet pivot that changes everything.

A change of heart doesn’t mean tossing out your strategy or discarding proven processes. It means staying open — truly open — to the possibilities life (and work) offer us every single day, if we’re paying attention.

Too often, we charge ahead simply because that was the plan. And after almost two decades of helping organizations with strategy, I totally get that. But the truth is, real success often lives in the space where a solid plan meets a curious, compassionate heart.

One simple, powerful question can open that space:

“What else is possible here?”

I’ve seen what happens when organizations allow room for a change of heart — when they dare to ask not just “What’s our next step?” but “What else is possible for us?” Two groups I guided through big-picture strategy work come to mind. Both felt the urge to grow but weren’t sure how to expand without losing their grounding. Once they reconnected more deeply with their vision and purpose and gave themselves permission to think bigger, everything shifted. They grew, they aligned, and they moved forward with clarity and conviction.

I’ve found that when leaders weave heart into structure, that question becomes more than a prompt — it becomes a quiet way of operating. A permission to stay curious, to pivot with grace, and to let insight shape action.

So here’s my invitation to you: Where in your day, your plan, or your relationships could you stop and ask, “What else is possible here?”

When we lead with strategy and a change of heart, we create space for possibilities we might otherwise overlook. And in my experience, that’s where the best outcomes — the ones that nourish people and profits — take root and thrive.

What possibilities can you explore today? I’d love to hear.
